Usually an abscess is the result of a bacterial infection. Rabbits can form abscesses in nearly every organ including skin, tooth roots and bones. Abscesses can often be felt, and feel like a lump, or growth.

Abscesses always require veterinary treatment, there are different routes in which vets may treat an abscess depending on location. It is important that abscesses are removed, all the puss is drained away, and all tracts are removed to minimise chances of the abscess returning.

If you can feel any kind of lump on your rabbit, always seek qualified veterinary advice.
